Stakeholder Meeting with City of South Bend (December 6, 2019)

On Thursday, December 6, members from our team met with representatives from the City of South Bend including the Deputy Chief of Staff, Suzanna Fritzberg; the Director of Communications, Mark Bode; Graduate Research Fellow, Paige Ambord; and Director of Civic Innovation, Brian Donoghue. The goal of our meeting was to determine which of the projects our team had brainstormed would be most compatible with the City’s initiatives this year. Because an important priority for the City is lead mitigation, we continued to discuss how Tech Team could contribute to this cause. Representatives from the City described how many citizens call questioning what they can do to mitigate the lead exposure in their homes without shelling out the thousands of dollars for remodeling. We proposed that our team could compile a portfolio of low-cost solutions that the City could tell homeowners about. From the meeting, our team learned more about the history of lead in South Bend and how lead mitigation and public engagement are tied together.
